Dr. Slonim’s Outstanding Credentials
Helping women suffering from uterine fibroids is Dr. Slonim’s passion, and her motivation for founding the Fibroid Institute of Dallas, a center for non-surgical treatment of fibroids. Prior to partnering at Precision VIR, Dr. Slonim was Medical Staff President at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, and served as Director of Interventional Radiology at Methodist Dallas and Methodist Charlton Medical Centers. She has won numerous awards and accolades for her work, including the Outstanding Leadership award at Stanford University Medical Center, and D Magazine’s “Best Doctor” and “Texas Super Doctor”. She is a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology and the American College of Radiology. With over 30,000 procedures performed in over 20 years of practice, Dr. Slonim’s mission is to educate women about non-surgical solutions and treatments for fibroids.
Uterine Fibroids Affect Too Many Women
Uterine fibroids affect three out of four women, most often between the ages of 30 and 50. Women of African American ancestry are more likely to be affected. Those suffering from fibroids may experience abnormally heavy periods, menstrual pain, fatigue and anemia. The costs of more doctor visits, missed work and surgical treatments such as hysterectomy have not only a physical and emotional effect on women with fibroids, but an economic impact, as well. It is estimated that the cost of abnormal bleeding as a medical condition, costs $1 billion per year. Add heavy periods to that, and the costs rise to $12 billion! Fibroids affect productivity, overall health, emotional and physical well- being, sexual health, and so many other quality of life components.
Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a non-surgical procedure that causes fibroid tumors to shrink. With UFE, fibroids can be treated without a hysterectomy. Since there is no major surgery, side effects are reduced, and there is a much shorter recovery time. Most insurances cover UFE procedures. With too many women suffering from uterine fibroids not seeking help, Dr. Slonim is determined to educate women on their options, and that getting treatment for menstrual pain and heavy bleeding does not automatically mean surgery.
