Vella came to our office with many symptoms of uterine fibroids. She had non-stop bleeding for four straight months. She had been feeling pain during, after, and in between periods for years. She was bloated, had to go to the bathroom frequently, and didn’t feel well on a regular basis. She noticed that she was passing blood clots. Her lack of energy made it difficult to exercise. She was anemic and required iron supplements. Her husband was affected by Vella’s uterine fibroid symptoms, too, as she was experiencing pain with intercourse, and just wasn’t her usual self. He was concerned about her health. The list of symptoms affecting Vella’s life went on and on.
Vella’s family has a history of uterine fibroids. Her mother had a hysterectomy, and her sister suffers from fibroid symptoms as well. Studies show that there is a link between uterine fibroids and heredity. Women with mothers, sisters and grandmothers who had fibroids are about three times more likely to experience them than women without a hereditary occurrence. Even though fibroids can occur due to other factors, including weight, diet, race and age, women with a family history have a predisposition towards getting them.
After a discussion with her gynecologist, Vella was referred to Dr. Suzanne Slonim at Fibroid Institute Dallas. Dr. Slonim was voted by D Magazine in Dallas, Texas as a top doctor in interventional radiology. She is the expert in non-surgical fibroid treatment and founder of Fibroid Institute Dallas. At her consultation, Vella was so excited to learn about Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), a non-surgical fibroid treatment. Vella states, “UFE was exactly what I was looking for!” Once she knew she was a good candidate for the procedure, she didn’t even consider another treatment plan.
UFE is a non-surgical treatment option for uterine fibroids. It is a minimally-invasive procedure that cuts off blood flow to the fibroids and causes them to shrink. There is no incision, no hospital stay, and your uterus is left intact. Also, recovery is much faster than traditional hysterectomy surgery, so you can feel relief from fibroid symptoms and get back to your life much more quickly. Most insurance companies cover the cost of UFE.

Vella’s UFE procedure was life changing. She is so glad that she had the procedure done by Dr. Slonim, who has helped thousands of women become fibroid free. Vella’s comments on her follow-up paperwork even included a few smiling face emojis 🙂 🙂 :), showing how happy she is with the results. After four months, Vella is active, energetic, and more alert. She just came back from a vacation that she wouldn’t have gone on before her UFE treatment! Her husband is also relieved that his wife is no longer in pain and restricted by uterine fibroids. Vella jokes, “I’m sure he’s happier to live with me now.” Vella says she has Fibroid Institute Dallas in her phone so she can share the contact information with anyone who mentions fibroid issues. Vella definitely thinks she made the best decision for treating her uterine fibroids with UFE!
